For my first ever trip to Bali I was lucky enough to experience the warm and friendly hospitality at Alila Villas Soori!
After arriving into Denpasar airport on a lovely afternoon in March, my travel companions and I were greeted by the friendly staff from Buffalo Tours who looked after us for the two hour journey to Tabanan.
The drive to Alila was a great opportunity to see the built up areas around Kuta and then the more authentic villages that we passed through on our journey north. For the last few kilometres of the trip we were surrounded by hectares of lush, green rice paddy fields with glimpses of the Bali Sea in the distance.
As soon as we arrived at the property we were greeted by hosts who took our bags and offered us a refreshing welcome drink which we sipped while enjoying the beautiful views of the Alila grounds and the ocean beyond.
The trip to our villa was a breeze with our escorted golf buggy ride through the grounds! When we arrived at our three bedroom villa it was everything that I had ever dreamed a Balinese villa would be. The bedrooms were huge and luxurious, and the bathrooms were stocked with a huge array of lavish Alila amenities.
The master suite had a large lounge area with a gorgeous and comfortable sofa, desk and flat screen TV. The bedroom area was beautifully appointed with a king size bed overlooking the fabulous infinity pool and the bathroom was one of the most luxurious that I have ever seen! It had a huge bath tub, his and hers vanities and a separate toilet, shower and dressing room.
The outdoor area was absolutely stunning with a large dining/lounge area overlooking the pool and ocean. After prying myself away from my villa, we met with the rest of our group for a sunset cocktail at the bar followed by a delicious dinner overlooking the sea.
The next morning we rose nice and early for a yoga class on the grassy area overlooking the beach. It was my first time trying yoga, but it was such a great way to start the day and our instructor had some very impressive moves! Following our yoga class, we enjoyed a tasting menu for breakfast at Cotta restaurant.
Luckily we were able to order multiple options from each section of the menu, because the selection was too mouth-watering to choose between! After breakfast we managed to squeeze in a quick swim back at the villa before heading off to our Indonesian cooking class.
The cooking class was very interactive and it was great learning to prepare some delicious bases from which we could then make a number of Indonesian dishes. We prepared a red curry base and a yellow curry base which the chefs helped us turn into a delicious lunch!
That afternoon we also enjoyed a cycle tour of the nearby villages travelling on the local roads and passing by rice paddy fields. A few of our group did the tour on segways, which was quite a novelty!
We visited a local blacksmith and a temple in one of the nearby villages. Our guide was great, explaining certain aspects of the local area and culture. After an action packed day we enjoyed dinner by the pool back at our villa, which was a very relaxing way to wind down after all of our activities!
After breakfast the following morning it was unfortunately time to say goodbye to the wonderful Alila Villas Soori. The staff looked after us so well during our stay. It was difficult to decide whether the service or the facilities were the stand out of our time at the property. We didn’t have enough to time experience a treatment at the beautiful Spa Alila, so I’m afraid I will just have to visit again!
