Exploring Vietnam

THAI AIRWAYS

We departed ex Perth at 09:15 through to Bangkok. The aircraft was clean and tidy and very comfortable. We connected in Bangkok through to Hanoi, the food wasn’t that great on this leg though it’s such a short flight, it was not a real bother. This flight was also very comfortable and clean. Excellent Airline, Great service.

VIETNAM AIRLINES

Vietnam Airlines impressed me quite a lot. I’m not really sure what I was expecting but they certainly did go above and beyond to make sure our short flights within Vietnam were as comfortable as possible. The only thing I would recommend for clients is to take a listening device on the flight as entertainment is provided.

MERCURE HANOI

The Mercure Hanoi is in a great location just outside the old quarter. Beautiful, boutique style hotel. Lovely large rooms with a red and white colour scheme throughout. Food and service is great, great all rounder based on price, location and star rating.

SOFITEL METROPOL HANOI

Love, Love this property. Gorgeous French colonial inspired hotel within an old historic building in a fantastic location within the old quarter and right around the way is the lovely Opera House and Hoan Kiem Lake. Gorgeous pool area surrounded by green shutters and wrought iron detail. With in the new Opera Wing they have the lead in rooms, Premium room then Premium suites and the Grand Suites which boast private check in and a more personalized service for your higher end guests. Definitely my favourite hotel in Hanoi.  We had a lovely hosted lunch here, great selection of foods from the buffet. Awesome Hotel!!!!

SILK PATH HOTEL

I found this hotel a very “Oriental” styled hotel with quite small rooms. Definitely a flop and drop kind of property for people on a budget. Executive rooms are great for people wanting a little extra room as they have a small lounge area but otherwise rooms are small and the only difference between Superior and Deluxe are basically different city views. A Great location though and great service.

MAY DE VILLE

We only saw the Deluxe rooms at the May De Ville as they were at quite a high occupancy during our visit. The Deluxe Twin rooms have a spa in them and only interconnect the Deluxe Double rooms. Be sure to request a room with Spa at time of booking, as this is definitely a nice surprise for guests. The Family Rooms are HUGE here with great bathroom facilities and lots of space for the kids. They also have a new restaurant opening in 2 months time offering all types of international cuisine – this will be located on the rooftop of the property.

ANANTARA HOI AN BEACH RESORT

Located about half an hour to 40 minutes from Danang International Airport. Gorgeous property located right on the banks of the canal. We had the pleasure of staying here for 3 nights in a Junior Garden View Suite. Beautiful large rooms at 40m2 either with Garden or River View. The only difference is Views between room types, except for the Anantara Suite with only a River View at 80m2 so double the size. Fantastic location set right in Hoi An town, near all market areas and local tailors and restaurants. Thoroughly recommended!

 HOI AN RIVERSIDE RESORT

Located backing onto the River / Canal. I think you either want to be on the Beach or in Hoi An town when staying in Hoi An, but shuttles are still available to the town centre for shopping etc. This hotel is clean and tidy with the beach access directly across the road. We saw Superior, Deluxe and Suite rooms and they are all riverside not beach side. Good value for money.

 THE NAM HAI

AMAZING!!!!!!!! Hectares of beautiful garden areas that run down to its very own private stretch of beautiful beach, this property will impress. I could not fault it in any way. With an award winning spa (one of the top ten in Vietnam) and exceptional villa style accommodation scattered across the property it is very sophisticated. I would definitely recommend the up sell from the 1 bedroom villas, to the Beach front Villas, solely based on the fact they are beachfront and make such a difference to the experience of having “your own beach!”

VICTORIA HOI AN BEACH RESORT

Great for families. Perfectly located on the beach with great sized rooms that interconnect. There is the option for Garden or Ocean views. The upper floor rooms are the only ones that interconnect (Sup / Del). Very beachy feel to this resort. Clean and tidy, definitely a winner for families or even groups.

 HOI AN BEACH RESORT

Situated backing onto The De Vong river, and across the road from the popular beachfront, great location. Quite a large property, great for families and/or groups alike.

Vietnamese inspired design with great facilities.

WALKING AND COOKING TOUR – Urban Adventures

Definitely a longgggg tour. We weren’t given any water or toilet breaks. It was a great way to see local history though not very well organized. After walking around Hoi An for hours, we walked another 40 minutes from the food markets to the cooking school, the cook was very grumpy and didn’t really guide us at all. Not really an ideal cooking class but we still learnt something so that made it worth while J I would definitely advise the other cooking school option in the pick list as from past reports that sounded fantastic.

BIKE AND BOAT TOUR – Urban Adventures

Awesomeeeee!!!!! Loved it! Great way to see Hoi An, venturing through the rice fields and local villages to get an insight into Vietnamese farming. Head back down the river on a Junk style boat! On the way back we stopped to enjoy a Vietnamese style BBQ on a “Deserted” island we aptly named “Infinity Island.” Great way to spend the day and suitable for all ages. We were dropped directly back at Anantara’s boat jetty which was very convenient.

 DUXTON SAIGON

Great location, rooms are pretty stock standard hotel style. Nice and neat, great breakfast options with good service. I would sell this hotel based on location, and definitely a great flop and drop property.

RENAISSANCE RIVERSIDE HOTEL

We enjoyed a lovely hosted lunch upon our arrival here – great selection of buffet style food. Great location with a rooftop pool with amazingggg views over Saigon. Great all rounder definitely one I will recommend, good value for money.

THE GRAND HOTEL

Within walking distance to shops and entertainment, this hotel wasn’t really my pick of the bunch. Royal style finishing’s, I think this property is more for your older clientele. Good location.

CARAVELLE HOTEL

Loved it!!!! Awesome property!!!! Directly across from the Opera House, the Caravelle has a great reputation. Definitely deserving of its 5 Star status! It’s a historic property that has been refurbished, reinventing its old French charm with a modern twist. Renovations coming to end in September on the reception area. It has amazing cathedral views and the rooms are large and comfortable. Awesome roof top bar area, with super cool views over Saigon.

VESPA STREET FOOD TOUR

WOW!!!! LOVED this tour. What a Great way to spend the night in Saigon. With over 6 million motorbikes let’s just say it got a little hectic but definitely a fabulous way to see Saigon, on the back of a Vespa and experience some local delicacies. Not that I’m into eating 21 Day old Semi matured duck eggs… but it was exciting to see one person from our group get into it. Ewww! Thoroughly recommend this tour – great for all ages, It’s a must!!

 CU CHI TUNNELS

The Cu Chi Tunnels tour was a real eye opener! We departed on a speed boat up the Saigon river and this took about an hour. We then went through to the tunnels and experienced a real step back in history. Very good tour for history buffs though very confronting. We then stopped on the way home, at a Cricket Farm, and shown how they farm crickets.
